Merlin Software invests in future with server upgrade
Merlin Software is set for a server upgrade next month in order to increase performance and capacity as its software grows to a wider global audience.
New resort clients in the US, Caribbean and Pakistan are set to come online. So, this important server upgrade will ensure Merlin provides the latest technology and the best customer experience for everyone.
Said Mike Pnematicatos, CEO and chief architect: “We are gaining more customers and introducing additional features and new technology, such as our Webapps. It’s critical our infrastructure can support us now and in the future.”
The server upgrade will take place on June 8. All site admins have been contacted to limit any inconvenience during the switchover.
Merlin Software Infrastructure
The Merlin Software infrastructure is provided and supported by Rackspace from their state of the art, tier 1 data centre in London, UK. There are service level agreements in place for rapid replacement of any defective devices. This ensures Merlin continues to provide a high level of service at all times.
The server hardware comprises:
- Cisco ASA-X 5508 Firewall;
- Production web server with Intel Xeon Processor and 64 GB RAM and Set 1 300 + Set 2 600 GB Hard Drive Storage both Raid 1;
- Development web server with Intel Xeon Processor and 64 GB RAM and 300 GB Hard Drive Storage Raid 1; and
- Twin database servers each exactly the same, one active, one passive.
Each database server has:
- Dual Intel Xenon Processors and 128 GB RAM; and
- 300GB Hard Drive Storage.
All servers have redundant, hot swap-able hard drives. Should the active database server fail, the passive server automatically takes over. There is no interruption in service.
The database software is MS SQL Server 2017. We use SOPHOS Anti-Virus and all servers run Windows Server 2016 64Bit.
Backups are managed by Rack Space with incremental backups undertaken daily. A full back up takes place weekly. Backups are retained for two weeks on site at Rack Space
